When she was 6, she won a surf contest with a run-down surfboard which she discovered in a trash can outside of her house. As a young girl, she started surfing and, at the age of 6, won her first competition. When she was 7, she already had sponsorship. Her home was San Clemente California before moving to Hawaii.
