Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, birthed to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The character Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of her two appearances on Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not let her perform until she was an adult due to the negative effects that stress could have on their daughter. Perry claimed she felt timid to perform in high school but began acting in theater classes at Northwestern University as a way to make friends after transferring from Boston University. Perry was able to land small TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. Homesickness, however, led her to California again where she began performing on stage. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her in 2013 on Broadway in 2013 In 2015, she was a part of her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. Perry was a regular character in the ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. That same year she played a young character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother as a young version. The role was given by audition even though she was a cousin to the character.
